Anatomical specimen of the lower leg of a calf (young bovine) with a detached hoof (claw).
On the left, the skeleton of the lower leg: the cannon bone (fused metatarsal bones III and IV), the pastern bones, and the split ends that form the base of the two toes can be seen.
On the right, a detached claw: this is the hard hoof that normally protects the underlying bone and soft tissue.
