Roy Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was an American pop artist. His works are best known for their cartoon-like images, featuring bright, often primary colors outlined by bold black contours. He created paintings, lithographs, and sculptures. In the 1960s, he was considered a pioneer of pop art, along with fellow artists such as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist, whose paintings were intended as parodies of the style of American comics.
